100 Floors Review

On September 21, 2012

Ahoy there lads and lassies! It’s me again, your one and only app pirate, bringing you the latest apps in smart phone technology.

Are you a fan of puzzle games? Personally, I am. Puzzle games help me exercise my brain muscles. After all, even pirates like me need to hone and strengthen our brain power. Today, I bring you another game of the puzzle genre -100 Floors. Just judging by the title, you can already tell it’s going to be a puzzle game!

The game 100 Floors brings an entirely new meaning to elevator rides. In this game, the stress is not about who is with you in the elevator, or how claustrophobic you will feel in the elevator, or how terribly cheesy the music is in the elevator. This time, the stress is brought about by the puzzles you have to solve to move on to the next floor.

The Game Play

You swipe, pinch, stretch, tilt, and shake your way through each floor to open the elevator door. Each floor has its own theme. Each floor contains objects which you can pick-up or throw away. Other than the objects on the floor, you will sometimes see inventory objects at the bottom of your screen. These objects have a special purpose in your game, depending on what level you’re in. Basically, all you have to do is solve the puzzle that you encounter in each game.

The app does not live to its title of “100 Floors” because in truth, there are only 30 floors on this game. Word is that the developers are working on more floors for updates. In fact, we’ve heard that they are planning to have more than 100 floors. Shiver me timbers!

Sites and Sounds

As a gamer, I find that graphics are an integral element of every game. No matter how simple a game may be, I believe that the graphics should be good. I’m a very visual person so the quality of the graphics is important to me. In fact, the graphics will determine how long a game will last with me. With that said, this application does not quite live up to my standards for graphics. Though the game is simple, I believe that the graphics can be better worked on. Good graphics need not be complicated, especially when the game is very simple. There is plenty of room for improvement as far as the graphics are concerned. The design elements could be sleeker or more dynamic.

The Good and the Bad

As far as the graphics are concerned, I believe there’s still room for improvement. The graphics can be made to look more vibrant, colorful, or even realistic. Or it can still look cartoony. The point is, dynamic, enticing graphics will help push the game further into every gamers repertoire. Currently, the graphics are reminiscent of Microsoft Word Clip Arts back in the early 2000.

The game play is good. The puzzles are very addictive. With this game, you’ll definitely find yourself hooked for hours on end. One way to improve the game though is to have game support (aka hints). Some levels can get very frustrating. There are some levels that no matter how much you pinch, swipe. tap, stretch, and tilt, nothing happens. At first, it seems like an exciting challenge, but if you can’t figure it out after hours of trying, it would be great to have help on the way. Right?

What’s good about this game is that it’s absolutely free. I’m hoping that even after the updates are made, this game will still be free and will not require much in-app purchases.
