Feed Me Oil Review

On September 20, 2012

Ahoy there lads and lassies! It’s me, your friendly neighborhood app pirate, bringing you the most interesting finds in the app world.

Lately, I have been noticing an influx of physics-related games, the most popular to date being Cut the Rope. Today, I bring you another game of this genre, with the strangest premise I have ever heard of -Feed Me Oil.

The basic premise of the game is you’re faced with a monster, and this monster is hungry. To satisfy his starvation, you lead oil (yes, oil is their preferred meal) from a broken pipe into the mouth of the starving monster. Where does physics come in? Obviously, you’ll need knowledge on physics to guide you on how to best lead the oil into the monster’s mouth.

The Game Play

So the basic objective is clear. Feed the hungry monster with oil by leading the oil from a broken pipe into his mouth. How? There are objects in every level like magnets, windmills, wind, fans, and platforms. Each object will have a different effect on the movement of oil to help you reach your destination. Not to worry, there is no single solution to every puzzle, so you can get creative with how you solve it. The goal is to do it go get the highest possible score of three stars. The scores are based on the number of objects you used to help lead the oil into the monster’s mouth. During troubled times, you can avail of hints.

To control the game, you touch the screen to position the objects to where you want them to be. Each object can be rotated depending on what your game plan is. Once everything is in its proper place (or so you think), just touch the oil pipe and watch your gooey oil flow into the monster’s mouth. Beware of unforeseen leaks! If you don’t immediately get it right, don’t get frustrated. Trial and error can be done in this game.

The game has 49 levels, 3 chapters. There are 15 levels per chapter.

Sights and Sounds

One thing that I am guessing, is difficult to render in a game like this would be the movement of the liquid. After all, liquid shots are the most difficult to perfectly achieve. Luckily, this game did not disappoint at all. The oil looks rich and thick, and you’ll see the oil either flowing smoothly like a stream or in separate blobs.

Other than the oil, you have the artwork of the monsters. You’ll encounter large-eyed cartoon creatures. Many monsters are beautifully and colorfully rendered, while some are so-so.

As for the soundtrack, some songs on this track can get irritatingly repetitive at times while others are soothing and relaxing. So if you’re at a level where you’re not so fond of the music, then you can always mute your phone. Otherwise, you can play and enjoy the music at the same time.

The Good and the Bad

The strongest point of the game for me would be the unique premise of having to feed monsters oil. This makes the game slightly more intriguing than most puzzle games are. In fact, the mere title already arouses your curiosity.

In terms of graphics, the game did not disappoint, in that you can see that there is effort in handling the artwork of the oil really well. The monster graphics are good, but can actually still be improved to allow for more color and vibrance.

The controls are easy to learn, which makes the game okay for both light and heavy gamers, whether a big puzzle game fan or not.
