Ahoy thar me hearties! Yer lovable app pirate is back with another wonderful app to talk about. Ye see, while me and me crew where wandering near Africa for some good, old, ebony beauties, this here humble scallywag was deep in the details of Bobbing. Aye, tis’ a strange name, but once ye start playin’ ye will come to realize that what the game brings is nothin’ short of amazin’. Here is me honest review of Bobbing.
Bobbing is a platformer brought to you by the good fellas at By Little Bobby. It is a simple but extremely fast-paced game that will require quick wits and lightning-fast reflexes. It is quite a challenging title with a heavy dose of addictiveness. Yes, believe it or not, once I started, it took a lot of effort for me to put the game down.
In a Nutshell
There really is nothing fancy about Bobbing. Basically, a critter starts running as soon as you begin the game. Your goal is to aid that little, fast-stepping critter to reach the finish line whilst collecting a whole bunch of gems along the way. Unfortunately, like in every other game in this genre, there will be a variety of obstacles that will try to hinder the critter’s advance – the worst being the many smoldering pits of fire, which can easily bring you to the heights of extreme frustration as every time you fall into them, restarting the level from scratch becomes a must.
So, how are you supposed to help your little friend as he moves about quickly? Well, it is simple, just tap the screen (at the left side actually) to rotate the gravity in each level. By doing this, the creature will be able to run upside down and up and down certain platforms. And for pretty much most of the game, you will be altering the laws of physics just like this in order to avoid those pits as well as the host of other hindrances such as portals, direction altering tunnels, and barricades. To tell you honestly, the game is a lot of fun as quick decision and fast tapping becomes the play of the day on every level.
An Extra Challenge
Another thing that you might find quite unique in this game is the way the critter can change color when you tap on him. Yes, by tapping on him as he runs, he can change colors – from blue to red to pink and so on. Now this little key feature is not just for aesthetics. Nope, the color changing is a requirement to get the critter through that various color-coded barriers.
So, if you see a blue barrier, you will need to tap the critter until he turns blue in order to go through it. This makes the game a tad bit more challenging. Gah, sometimes i think I’m too old for these endeavors. Me fingers aren’t what they used to be from all the wars i’v waged across the seven seas… The life of a Pirate!
Bottom Line
Alright, I did not include a review of its graphics. Frankly, it doesn’t warrant one. The graphics is nothing to be in awe of. Simplicity matched with superb game design that features a key replayability element is what makes this game click. Bobbing is priced at $0.99 on iTunes. If you want something to play and then play again, this app is a good one to get if you are into platformer-type games.
