Yo, ho, ho, and a bottle of rum! Ahoy there me lads and lasses! Your friendly app pirate is here again ready to go on another exciting journey around the seven seas! The crew and I docked by land and explored a village in Indonesia. It was our first time in that part of the country, although we had seen other places before. We loved the village because it was welcoming and we enjoyed the local vibe. The lush green trees, clear skies and warm people were all something we could not forget. We also loved the local foods, especially the chicken porridge that we tried from a food stall on the street. It was hearty, filling and delicious. I was so excited when I found this game called Bubur Ayam Express by Gambir Game Studio as it reminded me of that chicken porridge. I’ll tell you more about it in this app review.
The graphics are appealing

The images bring warmth because it feels local. It’s set in a place in Indonesia, so you’ll see local people as the characters and their local foods as well. Those who live in Indonesia or are familiar with the place will find it nostalgic. Players who have not been in the said country or are not familiar with it will still find it interesting as it’s something new that introduces them to a new culture. It also follows the story of the main character and his grandmother.
It’s free but upgrades get expensive fast

This game is free to download, although it also comes with in-app purchases, which you may or may not purchase, depending on your preference. However, items and upgrades become expensive fast. This slows down the game’s progress, if you prefer not to spend anything as it means you need to grind more to earn what you need for the upgrade. Not upgrading on the other hand makes it difficult to reach your goals and clear the levels, so you get stuck at some point.
It’s easy to learn but quickly becomes challenging
The basic gameplay is easy to learn, especially if you have played cooking and time management games before. The controls also work smoothly, so you wouldn’t have problems tapping on the items to prepare the foods and serve to customers. However, the levels get difficult fast, making it hard to progress without spending real money, considering the upgrades are costly. Those who are after extremely challenging games may enjoy this, but those who might be looking for a more relaxing game may find this frustrating. There are hundreds of levels that offer different toppings and recipes to unlock.
The good
It’s nostalgic for those who live or are familiar with Indonesia and interesting for those who are not as it’s something unique. The graphics are appealing and it gives a warm feel because of the local setting. It’s free and the gameplay is easy to learn. There are hundreds of levels with various ingredients to unlock and a story to follow.
The bad
The difficulty level increases fast making it frustrating to some players who are looking for a more relaxing game. Upgrades also become expensive quickly.
The verdict
We highly recommend Bubur Ayam Express for those who are looking for a unique cooking and time-management game that is local to a specific country, which in this app is Indonesia. It has an interesting and warm vibe that depicts the country’s culture and their local food sold in street stalls. It has hundreds of levels where you will be introduced to the different toppings of the main dish in the game and more other food items. It’s easy to learn but becomes more difficult fast, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your game preference.
