The Devil’s what? Attorney? What in Davy Jones’ locker is an attorney? Ahh, alrighty. Apologies, this pirate be a wee bit confused. By Attorney , ye mean someone that gets ye out o’ prison through words. Aye, now that be me best friend. I’ve been in prison quite a few times and let me tell ye, it ain’t a pretty sight. Any bucko that can get me out o’ prison is a friend of mine. Aye, I would like to meet this Devil’s Attorney in person if that be an option. What do ye think?

Devil’s Attorney is a wonderful and fresh app from 1337 Game Design AB. It has gotten rave reviews since it was officially released for all iOS and Android devices October of last year. And even with its price tag of $2.99, it has been able to attract a sizeable following.

What is Devil’s Attorney?

Devil’s Attorney is a one-of-a-kind turn-based game of combat and strategy. In the game, you take control of Max McMann, a superstar lawyer. As Max McMann, you are tasked to successfully defend and liberate your clients – most of which are criminals – from their respective criminal cases.

Max is supposed to do it through sleazy but legal methods and tactics. So, while this game may be categorized as a combat app, the actions are done through a choice of moves that will hopefully weaken the prosecution’s case against your clients.

The Moves

Max McMann’s moves are different from case to case. However, most of the time, you will be able to choose whether to destroy the credibility of the prosecution’s witness or raise objections. In some cases, just the sound of your voice can make or break a case. While you may think that strategy and paying attention to the case details may matter, each move is actually reliant on luck. So, as you play, keep in mind that the type of move doesn’t really matter as it is the roll of the dice that does.

It’s Got a Role-Playing Element

Every time you win a case, your fame grows. And so does your vanity, of course. This is because with every win, you earn more money, which you can use to buy fancier threads and furniture.

Unfortunately, as you keep winning, the difficulty of each case grows and grows. This is because the prosecution will be all out to take you down due to your increased fame and bravado. Luckily for you, should you lose a case you won’t need to walk the plank, like in Pirate’s negotiation process. Ahh, the life of a Pirate isn’t simple mate, savvy?

The Beauty in It

The game is excellently designed. The content is superb and features exceptional writing, which is obvious from the witty repartee in every cut scene. The visuals are sharp and entertaining and the whole concept of the game is unique. The only flaw we found in the game is that the success of each move in a case is dependent more on luck than logic or strategy. Regardless, Devil’s Attorney is still a winner as it sits right now. It is fun, comical, and a bit addictive. Actually, me Parrot Squiffy won’t stop babbling on and on bout it, which blows my marvels. Aye, indeed Devil’s Attorney is a true gem from Davey Jone’s Locker!
