Flick Fishing Review

On December 21, 2012

There were many a time me and me crew had no more supplies and were hungry beyond comprehension. Aye, these were sad and hungry days where ports were hundreds of nautical miles away. In fact, we were so hungry, that often we would stop at small islands just to take some time and fish for food. Those be the good times, when we looked for our own food and had much rum to pass around during the night. This was how my third and final crew bonded and become the seas’ most prestigious reviewers. That be as true as the green water below me will surely swallow me whole in me old age. This is why me and me crew bonded over Flick Fishing.

Fishing: Surprisingly Fun on the iPhone

There probably be more than a few folks reading this right now, dismissing the idea of fishing as something fun to do. Fact here is that this game is condensed, meaning ye don’t have to worry about hours of waiting just for one fish to catch on yer hook. It has a simple premise, and surprisingly it does it very well. In this game, the devil is in the details as the game starts to hook ye in with its own simplistic wiles. The first game mode be infinite fishing and ye are simply tasked with catching as much fish as ye can. This may seem boring to ye, but the fact here is that every little thing ye can do, from preparing’ bait, to fixing yer line properly, sucks ye in quite easily and quickly. At the same time, the landscapes are serene, which is a welcome change for an iPhone game.

To expound, just imagine all the titles aimed at making the most of speed and reflexes. There are hundreds of them on the iOS format, and there are countless more on the Android. This kind of patient gameplay is refreshing amidst the not so patient titles that try to pit ye against time over and over again. At the same time, ye also have to plan for yer fishing trips, much like me and the men used to do. Ye’ll have to pick the right tackle, the best line, and the right bait. Each location adds a bit more to yer game by featuring different fish. Often, the size of the fish is also going to matter as the line might break if ye struggle against the motions too much. The game also features a tournament mode where you and a friend can battle it out for supreme fisher bragging rights.

Fishing: Surprisingly Beautiful on the iPhone

Let me be clear; this game is gorgeous. Whatever doubts I had with how the iPhone could handle details are quelled in this title simple because of the water. Aye, it almost replicates the sea itself as it sloshes and waves are formed underneath ye. It is very evident that the developers took their time designing this little look, as the game really tries to emulate real water as best as it can. The crowning jewel of this, however, is the way the sun refracts in the water, or the way that sunset looks as ye play. Indeed, the game is brazenly detailed, and the pretty look only serves to enhance the gameplay even more.

Fishing: Is it for You?

If ye want to try something new in terms of gameplay and look on the iPhone, then this game be the thing ye are looking for. The patient gameplay is really a treat, and tournament mode only serves to make it exciting while playing with a friend. On top of that, the new quest mode which was added in an update only serves to put a plot on the fishing that ye do, so it is a prime time to pick it up. Lastly, besides Infinity Blade, this is really a title that tries and succeeds at detailed worlds and looks.
