‘Tis me, me hearties, the App Pirate, and I be here to dreg yet another game from the briny depths of the ocean. O’ course, that ocean be the wide internet, by dreg I mean test countless different games if they be any good. It be a hard job aye, but it is better than risking the lives o’ me men looking for new treasure every day. On the side, we also play sports whenever we can, but there be little ye can do in the open sea. Ye can swim, but only if the ship is docked safely, ball game are outta the question, and all we can do is that little shuffleboard game that we be tired of, which is why Flick Home Run seems to be a respite with most o’ these problems as it simulates a sport.
The Precious Booty
Arr, Flick Home Run be about one thing and one thing only – that is the hit and the crowd. Ye are not tasked with making complicated plays and such, and ye are certainly not tasked with being the pitcher that saves the day. Instead, the game boils down to one simple mechanic, and that is the hit that comes at insane speeds. Some people might see this as a wee bit too boring but the fact remains, the game is incredible in that sense. The words “burst gaming” are often too well used, so instead think o’ it in pocket terms. The only time ye will be playing this game is when ye want to get just a brief jump into gamin’. Instead of immersing yourself with too many hours, ye’ll surely take this out on the ride to work, or during those off hours when ye have nothing to do. At the same time, yer gonna enjoy every time ye do bring it out to play.
In terms of gameplay, the game lends itself to the idea that it is a deceptively simple affair. That isn’t case, as that be the hook and bait ta drag ye into a deeper game. You have to make hits off of an invisible pitcher aye, and during the earlier levels this be easy. That is until it is revealed that ye have to hit several different forms o’ balls, often ranging from regular to the more extensive screwball. The ball type, however, remains a mystery until halfway through the throw, which adds a bit more challenge because ye’ll never know what yer hitting. This is basically the addition of twitch gamin’ too, as yer response is the way that ye’ll be scoring. At the same time, ye are also rewarded with awesome shows of power. If ye hit at the right time and with the right power, ye might be able to hit the cars outside o’ the park and gain more points. Those points are converted into XP, which ye can use to upgrade your hitting or yer accuracy.
Flicking Baseballs is sort of Fun
From there ye can tell that the game really does get much deeper that first look. Inevitably, ye’ll find yerself playing endlessly in an attempt to get higher and higher levels. That is the root of the deep gameplay, and the presentation really does draw you in even deeper. The graphics are not something that will impress ye, but they are bearable and adorable for a game about hitting baseballs all day. It is one o’ those titles that deserved to be on the top o’ the app store for a while, and the only way to really see that for yerself is to pick up the title and play it for yourself. So for now, buy it, play it with friends as me and me hearties will go forth and fish in the app store once more.
