Infinity Blade Review

On December 8, 2012

One thing that makes me fear for me life is the risk that I might finally meet the pirates of old. The ones whose legends maintain until today and who roam the seas as hidden myths. Aye, they exist with each crash of the wave and gale of the storm, they be there, all but ready to pounce and prove their legends once more. O’ course, the same can be said about the tales and legends of all land lubbers, as time would prove that they will be back. Which brings us to a game called Infinity Blade, in which ye play the many incarnations of a single legend.

The Story of Infinity Blade

It is well worth noting’ that this game took some very serious time in creating a mythological story. This may be only an iOS game, but the level of creativity that they put into this game be very interesting’ indeed. Ya see, ye play as a simple warrior tasked with the duty of fighting’ the God King. However, before ye even reach for the controls, the character dies and instead, ye must fight as the son of the mighty warrior. Each time ye fail, there be no retry for the game, and instead, each incarnation be the offspring if the previous line. This means that each wave only appears after 20 years. This is all in the quest of destroying’ the tyrant, but the quest be not easy either, which males the gameplay even more prominent.

How the Gameplay Fares

Infinity Blade’s gameplay can be more compared to that of rail shooters. Ye do not control the characters movement, but ye are made to protect yourself through various moves like the parry and the block. Mayhap the hardest thing about this game be protecting’ yourself, for ye are also not in complete control of yer fighting’. Instead, ye must wait for the opportune moment instead of bashing, hacking, and slashing your way to the God King. That alternative style of fighting’ keeps ye on yer toes, and makes each batter incredibly tense. While the rail mechanic is nothing’ new to iOS device, it is refined here in this game where even the few moves ye have feel powerful.

The upgrade system, which is already standard in almost all iOS titles, is also quite the treat here in this game. Ye can only upgrade the gear ye have now, but to extreme levels instead of just a few key differences. The game does have a lot in the way of a personal arsenal as there are many weapons that can be switched out for newer ones. While it is easy to level up yer initial gear, keep in mind that enemies don’t reduce level, only you weapons do if ye choose a new one.

The Impressive new Step in iOS Graphics

Possibly one o’ the greatest achievements in this game is that the graphics be stunning’. Infinity Blade be one of those games that show cases the full potential of iPhone format. The environments are in stunning 3D, and the camera isn’t just limited to top down views or other static cameras. Instead it tracks the full actions of the fighter and much resembles the console titles instead. I admit, I had never seen any game on the iOS that puts so much effort in how it looked.

Why ye should Get it.

Arr, this is probably one o’ the most recommended games I can think about as of late. Besides the epic story, and the jaw dropping models and worlds, the combat also be an exercise in fast twitch gameplay coupled with tactics and patience. The upgrade system, which doesn’t influence how hard the enemies will become, is also another driving force in replay-ability. This be one o’ those games where ye truly believe that ye are a legend, fighting against the greatest tyrant God King, so ye should start now, and dig it up within the chest o’ booty that is called the App Store.
