Zombie Gunship Review

On January 6, 2013

Ahoy, me hearties! Your favorite pirate app is back for another game that I discovered while treasure hunting and sailing on the seven seas.

Zombie games are popular to a lot of lads out there in the land. Even me comrades in the ship also love playing them. On one of our recent treasure hunts, I found a gadget that had a zombie game installed. It’s called Zombie Gunship. Avast ye, as I’m about to give you more information about it.

The Game Play

You will play as a gunner riding on an AC-130 aircraft. It will fly around the map and your goal is to kill the zombies and prevent them from reaching the bunk. These zombies will attack the remaining humans on the ground. Avoid shooting them as killing 3 people with friendly fire will end the game. Also, even if only one of the zombies reached the bunk, the game will end right away. Humans that were killed by zombies will not be taken against you. However, they will be transformed into zombies too. There are no other stages so you get to play the game as long as you can. The game will eventually end but if you stay longer, you’ll earn higher score, which you can show off to ye mates on the game center.

The first release of Zombie apocalypse had only one map, which is Bunker Charlie 1. It now has two additional maps, which are Pleasant Acres and Bakersfield. There are 3 weapons that you can use and upgrade. They are the 25mm Gatling gun, 40mm Bofors auto-cannon and 105mm Howitzer cannon. Use them to blow the men down and send them to Davy Jone’s Locker. These weapons have different features so it’s up to you which you think is the best one to use for a specific situation. You can always switch weapons anytime by tapping the switch option and tapping on the weapon of your choice.

The smaller gun, which is the 25mm Gatling gun, is the only one available when you start the game. This has continuous supply of bullets so there’s no need for reload. However, it becomes heated in the long run making the target larger, which will make it hard for you to avoid shooting the humans. You will earn coins from killing the zombies. Use them to unlock the other bigger guns, as well as for upgrading them. The 40mm Bofors auto-cannon can be used 3 times before it needs to be reloaded. It can take down a medium size unit of zombies. The 105mm Howitzer cannon can take down bigger unit of zombies that it only has one shot, so you need to reload it after every use.

Aside from upgrading your weapons, there are other upgrades available including increasing the number of civilians that can be killed from friendly fire from 3 to 6, as well as improving your zombie killing efficiency. The game is in 3D night vision, allowing you to switch between black and white modes. In app purchase for coins is also available in case ye lads want to upgrade faster. The additional two maps have the same game play and controls like the first one.

The Good

Though the game doesn’t have much color because of its 3D night mode, the graphics is still good and clear. The sound effect for the weapons is excellent. Blimey! They sounded real, scaring the new buckos on the ship. Since this is a play as long as you can survive type of game, it will keep you occupied for hours, trying to beat your own score. I play it all the time when there’s not much action in the sea.

The Bad

The play as long as you can survive stage also has a negative side as it could get boring after a while. Though two new maps were added, more maps would be better to compensate for the one stage game for each map. The weapons and upgraded are only limited. More of these would be great addition to this application and will make me mateys happier playing it.
