Expo Apprentice Review

On November 25, 2012

Land ho! Avast ye! We be approaching land soon ye land lubber. Me ship be docking as this ol’ stinky pirate has been invited to a weaponry expo where all kinds of sharp blades and fat muskets are up fer the takin’, arrr! Good thing I got me trusty smartphone with the newest cool app designed for expos, arrr! Aye, that be the Expo Assistant. Here be me review on it.

Expo Assistant is developed by Sparkania, a new player in the app development world. Well, newbie they may be, they knocked the ball out of the park with this one. Expo Assistant has to be, hands down, one of the most useful organizer apps to ever come out on Android. And this is a declaration you shouldn’t take lightly since I tend to be really picky about these kinds of apps. Let me give you the low down on it.

What is it Exactly?

Well, from the name alone, you should be able to deduce that Expo Assistant is an organizer app specifically made for people organizing, attending, or selling at expos, conventions, and job fairs. And just to confirm it, that is exactly what it is…and more. The app is pretty new and has recently been updated and patched to reduce any possible bugs that came out since its release. This is probably why you may be hard pressed to find any user reviews or buzz about it. That and because the app has a small niche following, I’d like to think.

Expo Assistant is a paid app. You will need to plunk down $1.99 to get it. But don’t worry, if you are a cheapskate or want to test the app first before paying for it, there is a free version called the Expo Apprentice. The free version has all the features of the paid app for the exception of managing multiple expo campaigns simultaneously. Unfortunately, with Expo Apprentice, you can only organize 1 expo.

What makes it Different from Other Organizer Apps?

Good question. Expo Assistant is built primary for expos – to organize everything you need for an expo, fair, or convention, regardless if you are merely an attendee, a booth representative, or the actual organizer of the expo.

Don’t want to lug around a stack of calling cards, resumes, brochures, etc…? The app allows you to send or share your contact details, photos, documents, and other digital files at will to everyone you encounter in the expo, be it to a possible business partner, the representative of a potential supplier, your next employer, or the pretty girl that happened to smile at you by the refreshments area. Through Expo Assistant, you can actually send your electronic business card, resume, brochure, and pretty much any other digital file with just one-click to a relevant contact person you met in the expo via SMS or email.

Aside from the nifty feature we just mentioned, Expo Assistant can also help you take notes about an expo or even organize your task list for the day, be it before, during, or after the expo. Interested in a booth you visited in an expo? Jot it down on your phone via the app and you will never forget about what you saw or experienced there. Aye, Expo Assistant is like your very own memory chip as well.

The app is also great for the actual organizer of the expo or affair because through it, they can easily rate or rank booths and vendors, take photos of each booth and pretty much every corner of the expo grounds, and even archive data for later evaluation and review.

Is it Easy to Use?

Yes, it is. On our first run, we found the app to have a well-designed user interface. The learning curve shouldn’t be more than 10 minutes for a newbie. The initial setup merely requires you to fill in your contact details. Once done, it will configure your digital business card automatically. After that, you will encounter a few more popups with info on how to do stuff within the app. Just keep tapping ok and eventually the setup will finish and you can readily start using the app.

From there, the app will depend on the information you feed it. Aye, like every other organizer app around, Expo Assistant will only be as great as the information you feed it. So, make sure to be diligent enough to manually enter the information it needs to help you. Remember, while this app is great for organizing, it isn’t SIRI. Oh bloody hell I forgot to feed me parrot Squiffy! Garrrr… See? Even an old seadog like me ought to be using apps such as these.
