Run Princess Run Review

On January 15, 2013

Yer humble app pirate is back with a doozy. I be sailin’ the seven seas and surfin’ the App Store for a new mobile game to keep me mind off things. Since I be likin’ princesses a lot, I chose this fairly new game Run Princess Run. Wanna know how this here game fairs? Here is me honest review of it.

Run Princess Run is the most recent release of Qajoo, and it is, by its name, another endless runner. Seems to me that a lot of runners still keep popping out even if the genre has been done to death. Nevertheless, let’s give Qajoo the benefit of the doubt.

It’s a Different Kind of Runner

The typical runners you often see around are those where you basically control how the running character avoids obstacles. A tilt, a swipe, a tap and your character turns, swerves, or jumps. Well, in Run Princess Run, this is washed away and replaced with a unique concept. Instead of controlling the direction and movements of the character, the princess in this case, you control the actual environment. Touch stuff to move blocks in order to help the princess along. Raise a block to allow the princess to jump through a little easier and maybe get that coin or heart that she desperately needs. You can do the same thing so that she doesn’t fall from a cliff she is on top off. Remember, the princess is a fragile, little thing – so take good care of her by manipulating the terrain to fit her run. If you be careless with me princess, i’ll make ya walk the plank, savvy?!

It’s Easy Enough

Your first run through the game will come with instructions – a tutorial if you will. The tutorial basically consists of information pop ups introducing terrain types, the use of hearts and coins, and the various powerups you will encounter during your run. The heart actually helps the princess replenish health, which gradually degrades during her run. Coins are used for your score and to buy stuff like upgrades and boosts from the store.

It’s Graphically Detailed

The artwork of the game is cartoony in nature but it seems apt to the whole them of the game where a princess is trying to escape an evil witch. Furthermore, since you are tasked to help the princess through terrain manipulation, you can easily see the extensive detail the developers placed in the environment. The colors are crisp and shapes sharp.

Slow Start, Strong Finish

On my first run, I found Run Princess Run a bit slow. The princess run’ was too slow for my taste leaving the challenge and difficulty of the game down in the gutters. That be because i am a master of chasing scoundrels all across the seven seas. However, little that i know that as you forge on through, her run gets furious, leaving you literally breathless! So, if you find the game a bit boring at first, just keep playing because it will definitely get better. While everything in the game is a definite plus, the music, on the other hand, is something that might incite you to stir your ship into an iceberg. It is a bit monotonous, and quite tiresome over time.

Conclusion

Run Princess Run is a unique kind of endless runner that most people will probably enjoy. And since it is free, available for iOS and Android phones and tablets, and light on any system it runs on, it is the perfect runner for people just looking to kill time without getting too stressed. This Pirate would place this runner in a close heads up battle with Tiny Wings, a true gem i reckon!
