Bloodsuckers! I be hating ‘em as much as I be hating livin’ on land with no rum to me name. Aye, vampire be me bane of existence. They suck, and I be meaning literally. Good thing is that not everything about ‘em bloodsuckers be bad. Take Nosferatu: Run from the Sun as an example. This mobile game is, in me own eyes, purrty good – and here is why.
Another Runner App
It’s another runner folks! Aye, with so many other runner apps around, how can Nosferatu: Run from the Sun be any different. You play a vampire. Okay, that seems to be somewhat unique, but the game is still a runner, a genre that is rapidly losing hype. Why? Because other than getting high scores, there is no goal and no end to the game. Runners like Temple Run and the like were big hits months back but soon lost steam. And that is because gamers tend to lose interest when there is no clear finish line. Unfortunately, this particular runner app is the same thing. But yes, in this one, you play the original vampire – the Dracula of all Draculas, Nosferatu.
This app is available on the Android and iOS platforms. The minimum requirements are low so even old tablets and smartphones sporting the obsolete versions of their specific operating systems will be able to run it.
The Story
With regards to the story, it is simple and somewhat familiar. You play Nosferatu and you are trying to outrun the sun, which we all know can decimate any vampire to dust. So, instead of a bunch of zombies or wild apes at your heels, it is the sun you are running from this time.
It’s has a Little Oomph to it After All
Alright, from the previous paragraph, you may end up concluding that the game stinks. The fact is that Nosferatu: Run from the Sun is actually pretty good for a runner. The graphics are good and the whole cute vampire floating around is kind of interesting. However, in our opinion, the real value in this mobile game is the upgrading system it has. You see, like most notable runner apps, in this game, a player is allowed to purchase or collect upgrades for their character, which will help them jump higher, duck lower, and gain new skills all of which will be somewhat necessary as you go through the more difficult levels or stages.
The great thing about the system is it is balanced and the upgrades are all realistic in relation to the actual game. You will also find it quite refreshing to see how temporary power ups and boosts interact perfectly with the upgrades you can purchase via the coins you collect. A player can actually purchase upgrades in order to maximize its potential through power up to somewhat form a type of combo boost. Most runners don’t have this kind of system down to a science yet, but the developers behind this app, Smuttlewerk Interactive, more known to churn out strategy games, have nailed it.
It Looks and Feels Great
Every runner’s success normally boils down to the visuals and the responsiveness of the controls. Smuttlewerk actually put a lot of time developing a good mixture of both to make this game rank high for that. The visuals, which are all hand drawn by the way, are just awesome while the controls are just accurate, responsive, with no room for lags. Even the in-game music and sound effects really complement the game in every way. Kudos to the developer for that.
Bottom Line
Nosferatu: Run from the Sun is a great game for diehard runners. It has a great upgrading system, cool graphics, phenomenal controls, and distinctive audio. Unfortunately, I feel that the era of runner apps is dying. So, while this game may be that good, it may not last long enough for people to actually remember playing it.
