Aaarggghhh! Me stubby little fingers are achin’ all because of this Finger Tied app. Have ye tried it? It be a really good app except that me fingers are too stubby to figure out some of the maps here. Anyway, why don’t ye try it and see if ye like it coz’ I need to go out and deck and yell at me first mate for showing me this here finger-tying, son, of Calypso’s arse!
Owen Goss is Steam Colour Studio’s head honcho (and apparently one-man team) and has developed another simple app that everybody will supremely love. You see, Owen has always been fascinated with the tactile functions of smartphones and tablets, particularly those found in iOS devices. So, most of his apps are based on pushing the whole touchscreen technology to its maximum potential. He has done it with his older apps like Landformer, Baby’s Musical Hands, and Dapple. And he has done it again with Finger Tied, a Twister-like finger game that has gained popularity among iPad users.
What is Finger Tied?
At its core, the game is really simple. On your screen, you are shown a bunch of shapes with lines or tracks linked to them. The objective is to touch and follow those lines to the shapes.
The hard part is that you need to do that while your finger continuously touches the screen. You can’t lift your finger nor touch certain areas of the screen or board (some levels will have a sort-of out of bounds area which your fingers cannot touch).
Now, it does sound simple, right? Unfortunately, once you fully immerse yourself in the game, you will find that some levels can be extremely difficult as you will be required to drag multiple fingers into certain shapes strategically located in areas of the screen that can lead to literal finger-tied situations. Oh yes, there is a timer on each puzzle. So don’t think that it will be easy because once that timer starts to tick, the tension increases exponentially.
Play it with Friends
One thing I really love about Finger Tied is that you can actually play the game with up to 3 more people. In fact, the game encourages it as the game’s mechanics doesn’t really require all the fingers on the screen to come from a single hand (it is literally impossible to play the game with just one hand even in single player mode).
The multiplayer function adds more appeal to the game because people who are literally bored to death or taking a break can just whip out the iPad at any time and start twisting and tying their fingers up in delightful fun.
Verdict
Finger Tied is a great app to have. It may not be a free app, but it is one that can’t be compared to any other because it is literally a fresh concept combined with a fantastic design that stretches the limits of the current tactile technologies that the iPad has slinging. The app has no complex graphics. The only complexities are the puzzles and most probably the fingers on it. If you have got $2 on you that you can part with, Finger Tied is definitely a great buy.
