Yo-ho-ho and a bottle full of rum!!! Oh, there ye are me hearties! Don’t mind this old fellow, I be jolly from all the loot me and me hands just got from them shark bait o’er thar. Aye, since all of ye buckos are crazy over mobile games, let this old salt share with ye another app that ye may add on yer list and it’s called Word Search Star by Brainium Studios LLC. Avast ye as we start with this review.
It’s Familiar
Word Search Star is a familiar game as it works like the usual word search that you have on print, only it’s played on mobile. It’s something that can be played by kids and adults. Instead of a pen, you will use your finger to draw a line on the word found and it will be highlighted on the list and on the game board. Just like in the old school word search game, you will be given a list of words to search. While there’s no time limit that would add up to the pressure of having to finish the level within a set time, you will be presented with the time, words and word per minute after you completed the level so you’ll know how well you did. This is a non-complicated game so you would instantly learn how to play it.
It Has Various Categories
There are several categories to choose from including advanced English, music, science, astronomy, foods and more. It’s educational since you get familiar with the things that are under those categories, which makes the game appropriate for children and adults. Although the list is under different categories, everything is still the same with the gameplay.
It Has Different Color Themes
There are different background colors in the game like pink, blue and brown. It’s not really something that would wow you since it’s just a plain theme color, but it’s still a welcome addition since it gives you a different background to see. On the other hand, maybe the plain color would work on this type of game as you’re searching for words and having various designs or prints on your background could make it difficult to find the words. Letters are clear and easily understandable too.
The Good
One of the good things about this app is that it’s educational as you learn things that you may not know that are under the given categories. It can also be considered as a brain game as it improves your focus, as you search for specific words in the game board. The app is also free and very intuitive.
The Bad
The drawback is that it only works for iOS devices. If you’re using Android, you may need to find an alternative for this type of game. There are also video advertisements that pop-up while searching for words, which can be annoying at times.
The Verdict
If you’re looking for a game that would improve your focus and something that you can play when you are bored, this is a good addition to your list of apps. It may have some video ads, but it’s something that can be forgiven, especially it’s free.

Word Search surely looks like a cool game, but I am pretty convinced that the graphics used will be a turn off! I would rather play the newspaper version than consider this port. Right now, the only mobile app that seems to have ticked all boxes, is this arcade platformer: https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/electricity-run-game/id963759829?mt=8 . Test it out, it’ll surely be time well spent!
