Jelly has never been the App Pirates favorite snack. Aye, I get the charm of wobbly food that’s easy to eat, but I don’t have scurvy and all me teeth are still intact. I always thought that these sort of foods are for the old and infirm. Instead, what I usually do is to destroy jelly in hopes that there be a hilarious reaction when I do. My dislike for jelly aside, there be some very entertaining games about tower defense, and rarely do they co-exist with my jelly-hate. Enter, Jelly Defense, the TD game about protecting yer jellies from other jellies.
Graphics: The Shiny Booty
All smart phones have always been limited in tech, aye. In comparison to dedicated mobile gaming devices, there have always been massive gaps between phones and gaming. If ye remember an old device called the nGage from Nokia, then ye might remember the attempt that this format had in trying to create a dedicated phone with gaming capabilities. That’s why ye can’t always expect that a game will or feel as could as a game from a handheld gaming gadget like the Vita or the 3DS. However, these limitations somehow don’t matter in Jelly Defense.
Here, the design of the world be the star. Everything is colorful in the game, often, the cartoon-y look only add to the charm. At the same time, the Jelly models also be of a pretty look. The winding paths make these little constructs wobble and wiggle, as they try to breach yer defenses. Each level be new, and entertaining, bringing about interesting looks and feels. Overall, this be a family-friendly looking game, and there be nothing wrong with that since it looks so good.
Gameplay: Clean, yet familiar takes on Tower Defense
A bit of warning for ye; if ye do not like Tower Defense or found it too difficult, then ye might want to stay clear of this game. It shares the spotlight with many other TD games and the premise is fairly the same. Ye are tasked with creating’ defenses in specified placements so that yer little jellies can fight back as best as they can. To top that off, the game also has some unique tower designs, and upgrades can be made on each. Combinations get ye some pretty interesting results as well, but it’s nothing anyone hasn’t seen before.
However, refinement in this game be at an all-time high, as the pure mechanics of other Tower Games be implemented here. O’ course, there doesn’t seem to be much room for experimentation in the way of fighting off the horde. Usually the kind of tactics you learn on the first level carry over to the rest of the game. At the same time, if ye plan wrong, buy the wrong upgrades, or just run outta money, then ye might have a problem on the level as a whole. One new thing that the developers did manage to add, are color specific towers that are only able to take down enemies of the same color. While the tactics may not advance that much, there be a lot of fun shooting the proper cannons at the proper enemies, much like handling a ship.
Is this game Sea Worthy?
If ye be a big fan of TD games, then this is another game ye should consider for yer phone. It has a ton of expansive features, and undoubtedly has addictive gameplay. Once again, for beginners this game is not, as it expects ye to understand a lot about a lot about other TD games. This game gets a recommendation, both for me hate of Jellies and the solid gameplay coupled with pretty graphics.
