While me and me crew choose the see over that mess o’ a land transit you call “transportation”, we do enjoy the occasional ride around the town. It be fun, plunderin’ the different shops on the street, and we be doin’ it often. O’course, that also be a crash course in gettin’ arrested by your police, so we try to limit our land raids to a few times a year. Over time, me and me crew became antsy once more, and wanted ta take up arms and attack the nearest juice stand for all their oranges, but instead, we turned our attention ta more safe endeavors. So, all together, me and me crew scoured the app store and the Google Play archives to find somethin’ that would satiate our hunger. This be why we doin’ a Battle Run review.
What is Battle Run
Fans of Nintendo systems will surely draw comparisons between this game and Mario Kart, and at some point, this is justified. At the same time, you can also say this game is similar to the Crash Bandicoot cart game along with countless other games that feature carts as a means of racing. The important part here is that this game does offer something new to the table, the multiplayer has the potential of garnering a huge fan base.
First off, this game is comparable to an MMO with carts. You can connect to any server and start up a race with strangers. Okay, while there are still some bugs that need to be worked out, BR shows that this kind of game model exists, and can be massively fun. Of course, you can’t expect a title like this to neglect the online element. If you have the time and the will, you can practice so you can attain a slot on the leader boards.
The Game Play and How it Looks
The whole idea of the game is that you have to race against opponents with the aim of getting first place. Along the way, you’ll have the option of using power-ups you collect on the track to take out any people behind you, or ahead of you. So while it does copy Mario Kart in a big way, the difference here is that you don’t need a $300 console to play. At the same time, this title is a side scroller, so it’s less a cart racer, and more like Jetpack Joyride with other people. Besides the weapons, you can also modify your racer’s look and make your own unique carter. Lastly, you don’t have to worry about finding other players because you’re playing cross platform, so phone and tablet players can compete against each other.
While you can draw a lot of comparisons between this game and Mario Kart, the look is totally different. Each 3D model runs a along a 2D world, and animations for each attack is great. The adorable aesthetic, at this point, has been done to death when it comes to mobile games, but BR has its own charm.
The Verdict
Grab it because the game is fun, the online elements is well balanced and is done in such a way that everyone has a chance. This game is also a must for those that like to challenge themselves with real world players.
