Ahoy there landlubbers, the Apps Pirate is back again with something ya might find mighty interesting. China Taxi is what it is called and I be a son of a filthy squid if I didn’t point yer eyes into its direction. Tis’ one of the very few apps I be head over heels with these days. I be pretty darn sure ya will too. Are you looking for a unique, extremely comical, adventure on your mobile device these days? Well, look no further because whether you have an Android or iOS device, ChinaTaxi will definitely fit the bill.
The Gist
ChinaTaxi is a very unique adventure app that brings out two highly cartoonish and comical Chinese characters named Johnny and Burger. In the game, Johnny and Burger are both drivers and pullers of a taxi, which was more fondly called a palanquin back in ancient times. The two rascals are looking to earn money by bringing each passenger they encounter safely to their desired stops. Unfortunately, the moronic, slapstick moves and decisions these two Chinamen make usually ends in pain and failure. Add to that the challenging terrain of Ancient China, and you might just end up rolling on floor while giggling non-stop like a little girl. So, as the gamer, your mission in this game is to control the taxi and make the decisions for the two buffoons driving it. You will aid them in avoiding all kinds of obstacles, from raging bulls to weird-looking Chinese zombies, in order to get their fares safely to their destinations.
The Levels and Gameplay
There are approximately 30 stages or levels with varying difficulty. For each level, the mission is to successfully get the two oafs to pick and successfully bring three passengers to their desired destinations in one piece. Since the taxi will automatically roll along at a singular pace, all you need to do is to jump, slide, or duck in order to avoid the obstacles and keep safely on the right track.
As the taxi rolls along, you will be presented with coins to collect and a host of power ups to help you overcome the challenges you will be facing. Now since the host of power ups are limited, collecting as many coins as you can matters as you can trade in your amassed wealth for those rare boosts.
The Visuals and Controls.
ChinaTaxi boasts of great graphics in-line with its cartoonish nature. The visuals, particularly the background, is well-designed. And the colors really come to life. However, the actual meat of the game, in my opinion, is the funny but brutally crafted consequences the two oafs experience should they fail to avoid an obstacle. The violence is something that can get you laughing every single time.
As for the controls, nothing complicated really. Just manipulate the two arrow keys in the lower part of your screen to either jump or duck. No lags in the controls makes this game a much better option in comparison to other apps within the same category that seem to have overly complicated and inaccurate touchscreen controls.
