On May 11, 2013

Loot is a pirates prime reason to exist. It don’t matter whether we be spending it on tons of rum and meat or if we hoard it in our ancient magic caves. This also be the reason why we love games and apps with the same purpose. In this case, Legends of Loot makes us work hard for our booty, and that be no problem considerin’ the gameplay it boasts. It reminds me and me crew just what it means to pillage a dungeon, and that be no bad thing for us.

The Legends of Loot Storyline

There’s a lot of inherent value in making people laugh, and in this game, it’s probably the geeks that will get the most value. You see, the trope of fantasy is usually that a mysterious figure would offer a hero riches beyond their wildest dreams. This game twists that by making the protagonist pay the mystic wizard 25 cents in order to go on that grand quest.

If you’re into movies, this little story twist feels a lot like the one from Kung Fu Hustle; referencing the Palm of Buddha Pamphlet. Beyond that however, there is little else to the story. Now matey, lets dwell deeply in the game’s elements, aye?

The Graphics: Yet another Throw back to Classic Games

If you’re a fan of Old School dungeon crawler titles, then you’re going to have a lot of fun with this game. It has the same first person view as the old school dungeon schlock games of the old PC days. However, this isn’t a negative it seems, because the game style works well with a mobile devices limited peripherals. It’s also surprisingly good looking for a game where you can’t see your character; the 3D is well designed, and enemies are even more so. Also, when you hit something in the game, frequent “Bangs!” and “Zonks!” pop up to indicate damage dealing, so you feel like Batman too.

The Gameplay: Hack Slash with Magic Wands all while you’re grabbing Loot

A game called Legends of Loot wouldn’t be very accurate if there wasn’t any loot to steal now would it? So, the main driving force of this game is the epic quest to keep looting chests and enemies through each of the dungeons you crawl. The combat is also smooth and tight to the touch, since the game is turn based it’s also easier to keep yourself alive.

Legends of Loot App

If you have a melee weapon equipped, your attacks will boil down to swiping the screen while enemies crowd in front of you. If you happen to be a magic user though, you’ll be treated to a game of touch and tap while you sap away their HP. The journey is also truncated by secret passages, and pathways that lead to better gear and tougher enemies.

The difficulty curve is also something to note as it is fair while still challenging to more seasoned players. While you might tempted to buy upgrades from the in-app store, you’ll find that a little perseverance can get you through most of the dungeons.

The Verdict: Pick it Up if you like Old School RPGs

Legends of Loot is dazzling little title that deserves a lot of attention. Since it’s free, you’re basically getting one of the best dungeon crawling experiences available on the iOS today. Beyond that though, the title is just plain fun.
