Avast thar ye swabbies! Me sea legs be settlin’ in the briny deep and me crew and I be addled from all the swashbucklin’ we be having. Aye, before I get to me rope’s end, I be having an app review for ye. I just tried this new game on me iPad and it’s called Outlaw-Tripeaks.
The Basic of the Game
If you are familiar with tri peaks or three peaks solitaire, then you wouldn’t have a problem playing this game. This app was developed by Paul Lind and is available at the Apple Store for iPad users. It has a Wild West theme and you would be playing against different outlaws. There are three pyramids of overlapping cards that are facing down with 10 cards facing up at the bottom. There is one waste card facing up, which will be your basis on what move to do next. Tap on the card that’s one value higher or lower than the said card. If you cannot find one on the face up cards, then you need to tap on the stock to reveal a new card. Your goal is to clear all the cards on the pyramid and place them on the waste card pile.
There is also a bonus timer that will give you additional points if you make a good move before time runs out. The opponent doesn’t really do anything as this is not a turn base game. The opponents more of represent the stages as you need to get a specific number of stars in order to unlock the next opponent, which is by the way not clearly stated on the game. You need 360 stars to beat the first opponent and unlock the next one, which takes so much time. You need to play several times before achieving that score.
Graphics, Sounds and Challenge
When it comes to the graphics and sounds of the game, they are perfect for its theme. You would feel that you are a cowboy playing in the Wild West just looking at the clean and crisp graphics and listening to the upbeat sound. But it lacks challenge and excitement. Aside from clearing the cards, there is a mini game that would let you get additional stars.
That is by shooting on the Ace of Spades from the flying cards without touching the other cards. There are no upgrades, boosts or anything that would make it more fun and interesting. The gameplay is the same throughout only the number of stars to complete for unlocking the next opponent increases.
The Verdict
The graphics and sound of the application is what I love best about the game. But aside from that, there is really nothing new that separates it from the other tri peaks solitaire games. It also takes so much time before you can unlock the next opponent, which also doesn’t give a new challenge aside from a higher goal. There is nothing that would make you want to win really bad since there are no upgrades to get. You can play this app especially on a boring day but this is not something that you will feel excited about.
