Arrrggghh there be nothing like comin’ back home to port after a long time at sea. Ya get to meet yer old friends, know new land lubbers that can help ye, and most of all, ya get ta set yer head on a bunk that ain’t rockin’ about. This be tha reason why me and me crew wait eagerly ta get back to our ancient pirate island. Oh, last thing, the wifi’s better than when we row float about the ocean relyin’ on them damned satellites.
There be many things we find familiar and welcoming on those isles, and that be the reason why we plunder hard so we can rest even better. However, repetition and familiarity can come close ta hand in hand, which be why we take the time to give ya this Plants vs. Zombies 2 review.
The Gameplay
To sum all of the gameplay elements up would take less than 10 words; more of the same but exciting. PvZ had a certain charm that you could only get once in a blue moon. It was charming, fun, and it got some huge viral marketing and traction through many different games sites.
So, like the God of War series, you shouldn’t try and mess up a good thing when it’ll probably work for a few more games. PvZ 2 follows this formula, but not to the point where it is a rehashed game. This time, you’ll have to defend against zombies across the ages and with that, you get to visit a few more locations. The most notable one is the Egyptian land where you have to fend off the pharaohs of old. Of course, like the original game, the idea remains intact. You have to fight the undead horde in a gridded battlefield, and you’re given just enough time to set up preliminary defenses and resources.
The Gameplay
Once you get going, the hordes start raining down on you, and you’ll have to figure out a way to juggle between defense and a feasible attack plan. All in all, if you’ve played the first game, you’ve played this title, but there is big key difference. There are just more to do, and a lot more fun to be had every time you pick this game up. There are a ton of mini-games you can play in between each major level, and the addition of more rewards through achievements make the game even better, and then you get to the iAP store.
There are probably those that will complain about this little addition to old formula, probably many more that cry out that this game sold out. The truth is, the game’s store is very unobtrusive and can be overlooked without a second thought. Of course, this comes with a bit of patience and strategy, but that’s always been the charm of the game.
The Look
Besides some minor overhauls to the animations and an addition of a few new enemies to slay, you won’t give the new look and feel of the game a second thought. The whole aesthetic lends itself to the game play, and that’s never a bad thing when it comes to games. To be frank, the graphics looks almost identical to the original title, which is indeed a great thing because they were and still are very good.
The Verdict
If you want a game that will provide solid hours of new levels, achievements, and content, PvZ 2 is the game to buy. You know what, just download the game now, because it’s worth every minute of your time, much like the first title. Alright lads and lassies hoist the anchor, this stinking ship is off to sea! Ahahaha!
