Rat on a Snowboard Review

On January 14, 2013

Ahoy, me hearties! I’m here again, your one and only pirate app, giving you another game that I found from my last treasure hunt.

Snowboarding is one of me favorite past time when I’m vacationing on the land. Aye, we pirates don’t live in the ocean all our lives. We get to experience living there like ye lads, though it’s only for a few days. My parrot friend enjoys flying around and seeing a new environment. I can’t blame him because all he sees is water when we’re sailing. Rat on a Snowboard is a game that I recently played on me gadget. It reminded me of the fun time when me and the buckos were snowboarding.

The Game Play

Like the title of the game suggests, this is about a snowboarding rat that you need to control and go as far as you can. This is a non-stop running game like Jetpack Joyride and Ski Safari. But the difference is that instead of playing as Barry riding a jetpack or Sven using a ski, ye lad will play the role of an adorable snowboarding rat avoiding the obstacles that come your way. The controls of the game are easy to master. Tap on the screen to make the rat jump or do a long press for a back flip. The latter may be a risky thing to do as you may land on the obstacles and fall, which will immediately end the game. However, if done well, you will get higher points, giving you the chance to top the leaderboard on the game center.

Aside from doing back flips, there are other ways on how to get higher score in the game. There are stars that you need to collect along the way. Each of them will give you one point. Collecting all stars in one row, without missing any will give you extra points. Stomping on various obstacles like trees, wooden logs and stones will give you added points too. However, make sure that you will only be stomping on them as hitting them will end the game. There are also flags that you need to touch to earn points. Touching the same color of flags in a row will give you higher points. If you touch a flag with a different color, the streak will end and you will go back to earning a point for each flag that you touch, until you do it again.

There are three modes to choose from for this game. They are the sleepy slopes mode, exploding meatballs mode and challenges mode. The speedy slopes mode is the basic game mode in which you will play as long as you can survive. The exploding meatballs mode, as the name implies, will have exploding meatballs falling from the sky, which you need to avoid while snowboarding. The challenges mode will give you 50 maps to choose from, which you can try repeatedly to gain the highest score that you can achieve.

The Good

The controls of the game work well and the game play is easy to master, that even little lads would learn about it quickly. The graphics of the game will not make you say “yo ho ho”, but they are good enough especially for kids. The various modes and maps make it more challenging to play. The leaderboard feature would make ye mateys want to score higher and beat the other lads.

The Bad

This may be a good game to play when you’re on a short break or waiting for your turn on the dentist’s clinic. But this may not keep you engaged for a long time since the game play is basically the same even when playing the other modes.
