Awww! I love Temple Run. I also love Oz the Great and Powerful. ‘Tis why this pirate is so happy to play the new Temple Run Oz. This is an endless running game with an Oz theme that ye buckos will love. This is a fun and addicting game. And I declared that in the name of good, ol’ Calypso.
One of the most downloaded apps and one of the hottest movies joined in one game. Imangi Studios and Disney partnered together to bring this fantastic application to all fanatics. Learn more about the game with this Temple Run Oz review.
Basic Game Play
Instead of the regular characters in Temple Run, you will play the role of Oz on this app. Run on the famous Yellow Brick Road, ride on hot air balloons and travel on various locations inspired by the places that you would see on the new Oz film. The background changes seamlessly, which adds to the enjoyment of the game. However, you should also be careful as unexpected cliffs and obstacles may show up, which could lead to the end of the game if you failed to respond properly.
If you played any of the previous Temple Run games before, you will not find it difficult to play this one as it has the same controls. Swipe up and down to jump and slide or swipe left and right to make your sharp turns. Coins are scattered along the way. Tilt your device left and right to collect them. Be careful not to fall or bump on the obstacles though. Gems can also be collected though they rarely appear. These gems can be used for restoring the life of your character so you can continue with the game without restarting. They are available as in-app purchase as well. Aside from gems and coins, you may also get power-ups, which can help your character get more coins, increase speed or add distance. Abilities are like power-ups, but they can be upgraded using coins.
What’s the Difference?
As mentioned, the environment of the app is inspired by the popular locations in the movie. This includes the Dark Forest and the Whimsical Woods. The Dark Forest gives an eerie feel with ruin stones and graveyards. The Whimsical Woods may be bright and it may not look as dangerous as the Dark Forest. But beware as the forests and cliffs are not safe for you. The background music was also taken from the movie, which adds to the “Oz” feel of the game.
If you are tired of the evil monkeys from the other installments of Temple Run, don’t worry because you will not see them on this app. Instead of monkeys, you will be chased by three giant balloons. You will also have the chance to ride on a hot air balloon and collect coins up in the air.
Verdict
It has the same game play as the previous Temple Run apps, which is an advantage to the game’s fanatics as they would be familiar with the controls. But even those that have just started to play the game would still find it exciting, especially with its seamlessly changing background. This rotten old Pirate highly approves this title! Garrr!
