Yo-ho-ho and a bottle full of rum!!! Oh, there ye are me hearties! Don’t mind this old salt, I be jolly from all the loot me and me hands just got from them shark bait o’er thar. Aye, since we be having no musical instruments, I be using this app called TunePad! Sink me as this be the next best thing since chests of swag!

Making Music is Hard

It takes time, patience and dedication to be able to learn as well as master any musical instrument. For those who have had the privilege of growing up surrounded by music or had been influenced into a life with it, playing an instrument comes naturally.

However, for the rest of the world, taking the time to learn how to play one can become very challenging and frustrating at times. Fortunately, with all the apps that have come out now, there are a few which allows us to compose our very own music in as easy as 1-2-3. One of those apps for the iOS is called TunePad, and it can be yours for free in the App Store.

Hold On, This Does Not Make You Mozart

So before you download this app, you must first realize that this does not allow you to create music out of various instruments. This is more of having tunes by using varying tones which are already programmed in TunePad. Think about it as being able to create music in the simplest way possible. The size of the app is modest, having been able to download it just under 9 megabytes. Upon launching TunePad, you will immediately be taken to the music builder screen which will show you what seems to be a large grid which will occupy most of your screen. On the top however, there is a toolbar which will enable you to do various things such as save your work and change the tempo of the tones.

Making Tunes

When you want to start making music, you first have to pick out the type of instrument from the menu in the upper left corner. You will have the option to choose from synth sounds, piano, and a bunch of other eclectic tones named Arena Run, Fiji Afterglow and many more. They say that the best way to learn about something is to go head-on with it and try them all out, which is what you will need to do with this app. Pick each option to find out what distinct tones they create and how you can make music with each.

TunePad App

As for actually making music with TunePad, all you need to do is tap the screen and light up the squares to make patterns. Try making a pattern in a single line first and press the play button which can be found on the top middle of the screen. You can add more tones by simply lighting up the other squares on top or on the bottom of the first line you have created. The more patterns you make, the better the sound will be. You can change the BPM or beats per minute with how your music plays out to adjust the intensity of the song.

Verdict

TunePad is a good app to make simple music and not much more than that. While you can make different combinations of tunes, you won’t be able to get the full musical experience if that is what you are after. Take this app for what it is and you’ll be just fine.
