Zombieville Review

On October 26, 2012

Aaarggghhh!!! Don’t ever be spittin’ tales about zombies to me. I have them like them mermaids hate land. So, that should give ye a clear idea about me feelings about the hit app Zombieville USA from MikaMobile. But, since I be a mean pirate that isn’t too queer to shy away from Zombie-killing, let me talk about if fer a while coz’, obviously, it matters to you. Here is me take on this massive smash hit.

Zombie Invasion Goin’ On

Zombieville USA, which was released back in 2009, is nothing more than a game spurred out of our supreme fascination with zombies, and how such a thing as an invasion can potentially decimate the world as we know it. Well, Zombieville USA does put that same fear and fascination into perspective through a cutesy but very relevant adaptation of some of the popular horror/thriller films that featured zombies.

So, the story behind Zombieville is not that unique. A host of zombies invade your town. Armed with a redneck jacket and cap along with a rifle sanctioned by the NRA, your duty is to hold the invaders at bay. Well, that is giving it to you lightly. Obviously, your goal here is to destroy every zombie you come across. Give them hell and splatter their innards all across the sidewalk. If you still haven’t gotten the hint – the game is all about shooting zombies, a concept that is as old (or even older) as that old Atari console in your basement.

Clearing the Way for the Marines

The way I see it, the character you play in the game is there for one reason – to clear the town of zombies, clear it for the marines. So, the controls are really easy. You can move left to right by just tapping the arrow keys on the screen. To shoot, kill, or maim, use the buttons at the right side of the screen. Now, be aware that the ammo runs out. So, you will need to go inside houses to get more of them. And if there are no more, don’t sweat it. The game allows you to kill zombies using 18 different weapons, from your bare hands to flamethrowers and rocket launchers. I personally like slicing them up with a chainsaw, but me thinks that’s just because I hate them so much.

It’s No Graphical Work of Art

Zombieville USA’s game graphics reminds me a lot of those fancy flash-based games that were oh so popular about 5 to 8 years ago. Aye, the artwork as well as the very limited movements and effects seems to put this game a bit obsolete in the graphics department. I think that devs could have done a lot better with it. However, it really isn’t a big deal seeing as the theme does come with a cute, family fun feel to it even if it is all about violently decapitating mutating flesh.

Other Things You Can Do

If there is one thing I find really intriguing with the game, it is the integration of vehicles that your character can ride in. Nothing makes me feel better when I am riding a pickup or trailer truck splattering zombies as I drive on. It is me preferred choice for zombie-killing, next to the chainsaw of course.

Check for Survivors

As you play the game, you will eventually come across a few stragglers, those who have managed to survive the initial onslaught. Make sure you find those cravens as they just might have some trick up their sleeve to aid your efforts in turning the zombie tide coming. In some cases, you may encounter shops that will sell you ammo and a host of other killing tools. Don’t be stingy if that happens.

Bottom Line

The game is fun, addictive, and somewhat satisfying (especially when you drop zombie after zombie in a consecutive fashion using nothing but your foot). The graphics could have been better, but it won’t really hamper your experience of the game. Now, if you take the whole zombie invasion is possible theory to heart, then it definitely might be in your best interest to overlook this app.
